Selection Process

How are Youth Delegates selected in Germany?

In Germany everyone between 18 and 24 can become a Youth Delegate. Applicants  should ideally have a strong interest in youth work as well as the United Nations, and should have a good command of the English language in order to be able to communicate in New York. Most importantly they should have lots of time and energy to spare as being a Youth Delegate in Germany is more or less a full time job for one entire year.
The selection itself is a four-level process: first a written application including a CV and a letter of motivation, second written answers to several questions concerning the programme and youth work, third a telephone interview, and at the end a two-day assessment centre in Berlin where all remaining applicants meet the selection committee in person. The call for application is usually issued in October.

Who selects Youth Delegates in Germany?

The selection committee is made up of our supporting organizations, namely the DNK (German National Committee for International Youth Work) and the DGVN (United Nations Association of Germany), the Federal Foreign Office, and the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. Last but not least, also the opinion of the former Youth Delegates is taken into account.
